This new 9-petaflop/s IRENE supercomputer (Joliot-Curie computer) will be in production in CEA’s Very Large Computing Centre (TGCC) in Bruyères-le-Châtel, France, mid-2018.

Irene is a BULL Sequana X1000 supercomputer, funding by Genci, and have 2 compute partitions:

TGCC

  • Irene SKL :
    • 1 656 Intel Skylake 8168 bi-processors nodes - 2,7 GHz,  24 cores/proc-
      79 488 compute cores for 6,86 Pflop/s  peak power,
    • 192 GB of DDR4 memory / node,
    • InfiniBand EDR interconnect.
  • Irene KNL :
    • 666 many cores Intel KNL 7250 nodes - 1,4 GHz, 68 cores/proc-
      45 288 compute cores for 2 petaflop/s peak power,
    • 96 GB DDR4 memory/node + 16 GB MCDRAM memory/node,
    • Bull eXascale Interconnect (BXI).

    20 visualization nodes with Nvidia-P100 co-processors and 5 « large memory » nodes for post-processing with 3 TB of memory/node and Nvidia-P100 co-processor are also available to the users.

    IRENE has also a dedicated storage of 5 PB with 300 GB/s I/O bandwidth.
