September 2012

Tera computing centre is granted by European Commission JRC the title of Corporate Participant to the European Code of Conduct on Data Centres (CoC).

Designed and managed by the Joint Research Center of the European Commission, this Code of Conduct proposes general principles and practical actions to be followed by all UE data centres design and operation stakeholders. This framework fosters more efficient and economic use of energy, without jeopardising the reliability and operational continuity of the services provided by data centres.
This grant is an acknowledgment of the CEA-DAM work in the domain of computing centre energy efficiency.

Vendors, Research Centers Create European Technology Platform for HPC.

Major suppliers of High Performance Computing (HPC) technologies including Allinea, ARM, Bull, Caps Entreprise, Eurotech, IBM, Intel, ParTec, STMicroelectronics and Xyratex in association with HPC research centres BSC, CEA, CINECA, Fraunhofer, Forschungszentrum Juelich and LRZ have created a European Technology Platform for HPC (ETP4HPC) and released the ETP’s Vision document to improve Europe’s position in the domain of HPC technologies.

CURIE Grand Opening on March 1st, 2012

Made available by GENCI, which represents France - one of the four hosting members in PRACE, and provided by Bull, the supercomputer CURIE has been installed in two phases since the end of 2010 and is now fully operational. During this period, CURIE has been gradually accessible for research purposes through the PRACE Regular and Preparatory Access Calls.
Altogether, CURIE will deliver a global peak performance of 2 Petaflop/s (2 million billion operations a second) when fully open on March 1st, 2012.

PRACE, the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe, has selected six of its members sites: Barcelona Supercomputing Center (Spain), CINECA - Consorzio Interuniversitario (Italy), CSC - IT Center for Science Ltd (Finland), EPCC at the University of Edinburgh (UK), Gauss Centre for Supercomputing (Germany) and Maison de la Simulation (France)as the first PRACE Advanced Training Centres.

CEA's largest HPC file system reaches 11PB

The Military Applications Department of the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA/DAM) today announced that it doubled the capacity of its largest HPC production file system. With over 11 Petabytes of usable storage space, this Lustre v2 file system is one of the largest single namespace system ever deployed.
